Harvey John O’Brien, 88, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at the Covenant Medical
Center, Waterloo, Iowa.

A funeral service was held for Harvey Tuesday, March 23, at the First United
Methodist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Jim Stiles Officiating.

Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, with full military honors conducted
by members of the Iowa Honor Guard and the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Harvey John O’Brien was born May 16, 1921, in Norfolk, Neb., the son of Harvey
William and Mary Elizabeth (Hitt) O’Brien.

Harvey enlisted and served in the United States Army-Air Corps during World War
II. At the conclusion of the war he received an honorable discharge and
located in Maywood, Ill., where he met his wife, Betty.

In 1946 he was united in marriage to Mary “Betty” Bonita Christensen, in
Maywood. Harvey and Betty moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, put down roots and
started their family. To this union four children were born. Harvey enjoyed a
life career in sales and interior design.

Throughout Harvey’s life he enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, golfing, horses,
and gardening with his family. His most precious moments were evenings spent
watching the sunset over Clear Lake with his wife Betty.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Betty O’Brien of Waterloo and Clear Lake;
children, Mary Beth O’Brien (special friend Fran Wehrle), Waterloo, Kathleen
O’Brien -Lyon (Scott), Patricia O’Brien-Galasso (Gene), Clear Lake, Michael
(Narelle) O’Brien, Clear Lake; brother, Franklin O’Brien, Minneapolis, Minn.;
grandchildren, Teresa Nelson, John and Derek Gibson, Stephanie Chesmore,
Christopher and Brice Petersen, Jessica Mayland, Leif Kennedy, Joshua , Casey
and Mikaela O’Brien, in 1987 Kristine Sandberg, Kimberly Bond and David Lyon
blessed his life; 11 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews ,
other relatives and friends.

Harvey is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene “Red” O’Brien; and
sister, Evelyn Mizenberg.
