Jerry L. Millard, 71, of 2210 14th Place North, Clear Lake, passed away
Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at his home.

A life remembered service was held Monday, Aug. 24 at the United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dianna Hoover officiating. Military honors
were provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Inurnment was in the Clear Lake
Cemetery.

Family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society or charity of their
choice.

Jerry was born March 14, 1938, in Mason City, the son of Cecil and Florence
(Hodenfield) Millard. Jerry graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1956. He
was instrumental in arranging the class reunions he affectionately termed, “56er
Rumbles.” After graduation Jerry joined the Air Force. After serving four
years he was honorably discharged.

On June 8, 1958, he was united in marriage to Patricia Renshaw at the Clear
Lake United Methodist Church and enjoyed 51 years of friendship and marriage.
Together they were blessed with three children, Terry, Todd and Teresa ,and
four grandchildren, Matthew, Benjamin, Keegan and McKenzie.

In 1974, Jerry co-founded New Hope Village in Carroll, Iowa. New Hope
Village is a home for adults with disabilities and was patterned after
Opportunity Village in Clear Lake.

Jerry enjoyed a successful career in insurance and received many awards as
a successful salesperson. He co-founded and was president of Johnson-Millard
Insurance Agency until he sold it and retired.

Traveling was Jerry’s passion. He loved getting in his motor home and
traveling to a “56er Rumble” or to visit friends and family. All who knew him
will dearly miss him.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Pat, Clear Lake; three children, Terry
Millard and his wife, Tracy, Cincinnati, Ohio, Todd Millard and his wife, Denise
Clark, Steamboat Springs, Colo. and Teresa Millard, Mason City; four
grandchildren, Matt Millard, Ben Millard, Keegan Millard and McKenzie Millard;
brother, Roger Millard and his wife, Charlene, Largo, Fla; sister, Janice
Millard, Clear Lake, and his mother-in-law, Blanche McGrady, Mason City; along
with nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
