Curtis Eugene Monson, 66, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, May 6,
1995, at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, at the Zion Lutheran Church in
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial was in the
Clear Lake Cemetery. The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake
was in charge of arrangements.

Curtis Eugene Monson was born May 28, 1928, in Mt. Valley Township in
Winnebago County near Leland, the son of Clifford T. and Elma C. (Helgeland)
Monson. He attended and received his education in the Leland School System.
After completing his formal education he began working for the Gjellefald
Construction Company in Forest City. On Feb. 11, 1950, he was united in
marriage to Alice Deborn at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After their
marriage they moved to Eugene, Ore., where he was a heavy equipment operator
on the Look Out Point Dam until 1952, when they moved to Forest City, Iowa,
joining the International Union of Operating Engineers working for various
construction companies as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement on
June 1, 1991.

After his retirement he worked part-time as a crane operator for Andrews
Prestressed Concrete Inc., and Dean Snyder Construction Company both in
Clear Lake. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and for the past 10 years he
and his wife Alice were actively involved with the North Iowa Huskies
Hockey Team in Mason City.

Curtis was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and the
International Union of Operating Engineers AFL-CIO #234.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Monson, Clear Lake; three sons, Richard Monson
and his wife, Lee, Cedar Rapids, Cliff Monson and his wife, Carol, Clear Lake,
and Wayne Monson and his wife, Royce, Clear Lake; nine grandchildren,
Shane, Karin, Chris, Scott, Jon, Tim, Ray, Eric and Melissa Monson; two sisters,
Geraldine Larson, Seattle, Wash., and Kathy Steiert and her husband, Jerry, Osage;
one brother, Ron Monson, of Clear Lake; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Stanford Monson.

Organist Mary Jane Reynolds accompanied soloist Larry Shaffer.

Honorary pallbearers were many friends and neighbors. Pallbearers were grandchildren,
Shane Monson, Jon Monson, Ray Monson, Chris Monson, Scott Monson,
Tim Monson, Eric Monson.
