FATLAND, WINTERTON, KOCOUREK, GATAMAKER, HANNEMAN

Silas Orville Fatland, 91, 20 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, died Friday, May 29,
at his home. A graveside service was held Monday, June 1, at the Clear Lake
Cemetery with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating. Memorials may be given to
Hospice of North Iowa or the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Silas was born May 5, 1918 at Ellsworth, Iowa to Ole and Inger (Winterton)
Fatland. He moved with his parents in 1928 to Clear Lake to a farm south of
town. He farmed with his dad until he went into the Army in May 1941. He was a
member of First Special Service Force at Ft. Harrison, Helena, Mont.

On Oct. 12, 1942 he married Laurleen Kocourek, in a military wedding at
Ft. Harrison. After his discharge they farmed south of Clear Lake until 1958
when they bought a farm at Madison, S.D. In April of 1990 they sold the farm
and retired to Clear Lake.

He had two daughters, Judy and Roberta and one son, David.

Silas loved horses and cattle. He liked to play cards and he loved his
grandchildren. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clear Lake.

Silas is survived by his wife, Laurleen; daughter, Judy Gartamaker of
Outing, Minn.; three grandsons, David Gartamaker and his wife, Mary of Brooklyn
Park, Minn., Scott Hanneman and his wife, Darcie, of Silverdale, Wash., and
Jason Hanneman and his wife, Daylyn, of Casa Grande, Az.; great-grandchildren,
Brandon Gartamaker, Colin and Emily Hanneman, Kenzie and Kadea Hanneman; and
two step-great grandsons, Tyler and Cody.

Silas was preceded in death by his son, David; his daughter, Roberta; his
son-in-law, Robert Hanneman; his parents, Ole and Inger Fatland and his brother,
James.
