Dr. James K. Delahooke, 87, of Friendship Haven, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 1994,
at the Trinity Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness of pneumonia.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 12, at the Chapel on the Hill at
Friendship Haven with the Rev Ron Kitterman officiating.

Services were also held Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Clear Lake United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake
Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Friendship Haven of Cornell College in his name.

James K. Delahook was born Sept. 24, 1907, in Bravo, Mich. He attended grade
school at Froelich country school and high school at Monona High School. He
later attended Cornell College earning a bachelor of arts degree in 1930 and a
B.D. in 1933 from Yale University Divinity School. He earned an honorary D.D.
degree from Cornell College in 1952.

Dr. Delahooke married Marie Kaiser at Mount Vernon. He joined the Upper Iowa
Methodist Church serving churches in Iowa towns of Stanwood, Centerpoint,
Urbana, Anamosa, Charles City and Marshalltown. He also served as Spencer
District Superintendent.

Dr. Delahook retired in June 1973 to the United Methodist Camp in Clear Lake
and served as the minister of visitation at the Clear Lake United Methodist
Church for seven years. He later served as the minister of visitation at the
United Methodist Church in Iowa City.

He married Pearl E. Ashland in 1988. They moved to Friendship Haven in 1989.

He was a member of many conference committees and boards especially in the
field of Christian education.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Delahooke, of Friendship Haven; one
daughter, Nancy Thayer of Iowa City; six grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marie; and a son, Richard
Delahooke, two brothers; and one sister.
