Harriet M. Pate, 82, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 1994, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice In-Patient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), Dec. 14, at 1 p.m. at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. The Rev. Murley
Severtson will officiate. Burial will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials in her name.

Harriet M. Pate was born Dec. 28, 1911, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Gregor
Christensen and Mette (nee) Jensen Christensen. She graduated from Clear Lake
High School in 1929.

On Sept. 23, 1933, she married Jesse W. "Dub" Pate in Klemme, Iowa. The couple
made their home in Clear Lake. He preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1977.

Harriet cleaned many offices and cottages in the Clear Lake area and took in
laundry for many people. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers and
especially loved handiwork, such as embroidering for her children and
grandchildren. She was a family-oriented person. She was a member of Zion
Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and the Liberty Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Marian and her husband, James Pals, Clear
Lake, and Barbara and her husband, Roger McQuitty, of Nora Springs, Iowa; a
son, Jesse Pate Jr., and his wife, Linda, Clear Lake; nine grandchildren,
Timothy Pate of Manly, Iowa, Susan Betts, Coralville, Iowa, Kevin Pals of
Mason City, Iowa, Julie Millhouse, Fairfield, Iowa, Thomas Thornblade Jr.,
Mason City, Hollie Mosher of Clear Lake, and Jeffrey Pate, Clear Lake; 20
great-grandchildren, William and Nicholas Pals, John, April, Megan and Katlin
Sheimo, Brandi and Justin Blickenderfer, Scott, Paul and Samantha Millhouse,
Seth and Zachary Thornblade, and Tyler Mosher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, William D. Pate;
two grandsons, Scott Thornblade and Steven Pals; two sisters, Jenny Young and
Agnetha Kimball; and one brother, Herbert Christensen.
