Evelyn “Effie” M. Humburg, 77, of Ventura, died Oct. 18, 2007, at the Mercy
Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Oct. 27, 2 p.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Rev. David Gobeli
officiating. Family suggests memorials to Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program.

Evelyn M. Humburg, better known as Effie, was born on May 2, 1930, near
Frost, Minn. Effie graduated from Burt High School and continued her education
at North Iowa Area Community College. She married Donald D. Humburg on Jan. 27,
1950. They were married for 30 years and the marriage was terminated in 1979.
In 1980, Effie purchased a home through Farmers Home Administration in Ventura
and has resided there since that time.

For several years she was an Avon representative, earning their top award
of a diamond pin. She also earned many items during contests while under their
employment. In 1970 she was hired as a secretary for the Iowa Conservation
Commission (now known as Iowa Department of Natural Resources), and was selected
employee of the month in 1986 after 15 years of service. She held this
position until her retirement in 1999. In 1985 she organized the first North
Iowa Ladies Ducks Unlimited Chapter and was the chairperson for three years.
Effie was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding
Contributions by Ducks Unlimited. She also worked as hostess at the Colony Inn
Restaurant from 1990 to 1996 and May 2000 until October 2001.

Effie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake for many years.
During that time she taught Sunday school and sang in the Senior Choir. She
transferred her membership to United Methodist Church in Ventura in April 1997.

Her many hobbies included raising roses, ceramics, knitting, quilting,
cross-stitching, crocheting and remodeling her home. She also enjoyed
upholstering and refinishing furniture.

Effie is survived by her children, Dale (Vicki) Humburg of Columbia, Mo.,
Thomas G. (Carmen) Humburg of Mason City, Jan L. (Jerry) Nunemaker of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Carrie (Alon) Cage, Lacy (Shawn) Priesmeyer,
Jacob and Luke Humburg, Sadie, Katie, Allison and Aimee Nunemaker;
great-grandchildren, Sterling Cage, Jaiden Thomsen, Dayton Cage, Brooks
Priesmeyer and Landon Thomsen; sister, Ruby (Kenneth) Humburg; brother, Ron
(Terry) Daniels; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claus and Lena (Krominga)
Daniels; one brother, Donald I. Daniels; one sister, LaVonne Eliasen and her
husband, George.
