Violet V. Olson, 84, 1200 10th Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, at
her home. A funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 8, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jim Allard officiating. Interment was at the
Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Violet V. Olson Memorial
Fund.Violet was born Jan. 18, 1926 in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Horace
Benjamin and Ruth (Diltz) Jolly. She attended schools in Woden and Meservey,
Iowa. She married Clare Olson and lived south of Clear Lake where they farmed.
Violet worked at cleaning cottages and hotels, then later was a prep cook at
Perkins and worked at various restaurants in Clear Lake and at Oakwood Care
Center. She also did volunteer work at Oakwood. She loved to play pool and
bingo and watch the Twins. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, needle
work and embroidery. She was a member of the Thought and Thimble Club.Violet is survived by her special friend, Jerry Kaster, Clear Lake; three
daughters, Mary Butts, Riverside, Mo., Marcia (Jim) Gardinier, Clear Lake, and
Ruth Ann (Doug) Henning, Fertile, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Pam Peterson, Clear
Lake; four grandchildren, Ashley Olson, New York City, N.Y., Steven Cash,
Riverside, Mo., John (Lynn) Sheimo, Mason City, Iowa and April Sheimo,
Northwood, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Cecil (Eunice)
Jolly, White Bear Lake, Minn., Kenneth Jolly, Meservey, and Richard (Betty)
Jolly, Gilbert, Iowa; one sister, Elsie Forcier, White Bear Lake and several
nieces and nephews.Violet was preceded in death by her parents; son David Olson; husband Clare
Olson; and four brothers, Harold, Muriel, Donald and Leroy Jolly.
