Mary Budolfson, 90, of Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 at Good
Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 2
p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave North.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Private
Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 W., Mason City, Iowa.Funeral arrangements have been made with Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N.
4th St., Clear Lake. Memorials may be given to either the United Methodist
Church of Clear Lake or Hospice of North Iowa.Mary was born on Sept. 1, 1920 in Rolfe, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Burton and
Anna Maude (James) Ives. She graduated from Rolfe High School in 1938 and
received an education degree from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar
Falls, Iowa. She taught kindergarten during WWII while her grade school
sweetheart and future husband, Al Budolfson, served in the Marine Corps in the
South Pacific.Mary and Al were married on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 1945 and they lived their
entire married life in Clear Lake. A member of the United Methodist Church in
Clear Lake, the Key Notes singing group, and a very special bridge club, Mary
enjoyed many deep and supportive friendships.She cherished family, loved traveling and never said no to dining out or
going for ice cream. Her family and friends loved her gentle manner and awesome
apple pies!Mary is survived by her three children, Linda Emerson and her husband, Ray,
Dakota Dunes, S.D., Bob Budolfson and his wife, Patti, Mountain Home, Ark., and
Martha Hornaday and her husband, Bill, Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law, Dorothy
Budolfson, Ames, Iowa; grandchildren, Erin Emerson, Kara Emerson Harlan and
her husband, Tony, Ryan Emerson and his fianc?e, Dawn Kusley, Brad Budolfson
and his wife, Errin, Brett Budolfson, Brent Budolfson, Bill Hornaday and his
wife, Meggan, Curtis Hornaday, Matthew Leclercq, Manny Leclercq and his wife,
Julie, and Christian Leclercq; great-grandchildren are Evelyn and August Harlan
and Cooper, Sophia, and Isabelle Leclercq.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maude Ives; husband,
Al Budolfson; brother, Russell Ives; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Ives, Marie
Budolfson, and Doris Sharp; two brothers-in-law, Chris Budolfson and Ed
Budolfson; and one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Budolfson.
