INGERSOLL, MAYHEW, WHITNEY, ROSENBAUM

R. Crosby Ingersoll - Memorial services for well known community leader and businessman R. Crosby Ingersoll were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Clear Lake. Mr. Ingersoll, 59, died Friday (Dec. 7, 1984) at his home, 306 N. 14th St., after a long illness. The Rev. Margaret Wilcox officiated at the service. The body was cremated and burial will be at a later date. The family requests any memorials to be given to the Hospice of Cerro Gordo or St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Mr. Ingersoll was born July 6, 1925, in Mason Cty, to Ralph C. and Freda (Mayhew) Ingersoll Sr. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1943 and was a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He maried Shirley Whitney on June 12, 1948, in Mason City, and graduated from Iowa State University in 1949.
Mr. Ingersoll became involved with Ingersoll Flower Shop in Clear Lake until 1958, when he purchased it from his mother. He owned and operated the shop until 1976. He then worked for the state for six years as a CETA generalist, placing unemployed people with area businesses. He then worked as a clerk in the Clear Lake liquor store, retiring this year due to disability.

Mr. Ingersoll was a founder of and lifelong member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church here and was a licensed lay reader. He also was past president of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and School Board. He also was a member of the American Legion and an assistant fire chief for the Clear Lake Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Ingersoll, Washington D.C., and Kathy Ingersoll, Fort Dodge; two sons, Douglas, of Aurora, Ill., and David, Clear Lake; two granddaughters, Emily Rosenbaum of Washington and Katherine Ingersoll of Aurora, along with a brother, Robert, Clear Lake.

Mary Jane Reynolds was the organist for the service. Milford Knutson and William Harrington served as ushers. Honorary pallbearers were John Andersen, Lowell Eaton, Keith Haugen, Robert Roseland, Robert Young, William Martin, James Connell, Donald Goranson, L.K. Lewis, A.W. Schultz and Richard Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents.
