Julia "Julie" Ann Hofer Young, age 85, was called home by her heavenly
Father on Aug. 6, 2009.

Julie was born April 21, 1924 to W. C. (Bill) and Garnet Hofer in Clear
Lake. She graduated from Clear Lake High School and attended The College of
Saint Catherine in St. Paul, Minn. She married Ted L. Young (son of Victor and
Hester Young of Clear Lake) on March 31, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church
in Clear Lake. After several moves during their early marriage, they settled in
Mason City, Iowa in 1962. Julie was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother. Her
favorite role was “Grandma Julie” to her only granddaughter, Katie, born in 1993
on Grandma’s 69th birthday.

She enjoyed vacationing in the winter on Marco Island in Florida, spending
time with family and friends who came down for a visit, and walking along the
beach collecting sea shells. Julie had a sweet tooth, particularly for
chocolate (a true chocoholic!) She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church
until 1999 when she moved to Texas.

Julie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her son, William V.
Young (Bill). She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Young Jackson;
granddaughter, Katharine Elizabeth Hofer Jackson; long-time friends, Don and
Mary Ann Zavitka and Joan and Ray Moore; cousins, Myrtle Rose, Bob White,
Janice Wolf, Norma Hofmann, the McNulty family and nieces, Terry Arons, Kathy
Palmer, and Vickie Sylvester, and caregiver, companion, and friend for the last
six years, Lashaunda Fulton.

A memorial service will be held at the Hampton at Shadowlake, Houston, Texas
where Julie lived for seven years on Aug. 18, 2009.

Graveside services (Rite of Committal) will be held at Clear Lake Cemetery
on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Michael Schueller of Holy
Family Catholic Church officiating. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

The family wishes to thank Flossie Williams, Cleo Smith, Carliste McFadden,
Jessie Stewart, Joy Thomas, and all of the caregivers at the Hampton at
Shadowlake for their loving care over the last nine years.
