Vera Mae Hanson, 77, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at her
home.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), Aug. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th St., Clear Lake, with Hospice
Chaplin John Ayers officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery,
Hwy. 18 West, Mason City, Iowa. The family of Vera Mae Hanson has requested
that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.

Vera Mae Hanson was born on Aug. 22, 1920, in Garner, Iowa, the daughter of
John and Rosina Della Mae (Maitland) Hyde. She attended and received her
education in the Ventura Schools, graduating from Ventura High School in 1938.
She also attended and graduated from LaJames Beauty College in Mason City. She
was united in marriage to Allan Dale Hanson on Jan. 8, 1942, in the Little
Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1989. Vera owned and operated her own
beauty shop in Meservey, Iowa, for a few years and also worked for Fatland
Bakery in Clear Lake and sewed cap and gowns in her home for over 10 years for
P.T. Castle Cap and Gowns. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, flowers, and
playing Bingo, but her great love and enjoyment was her family.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Clear Lake and was a former member of
the Moose Lodge.

She is survived by her four children, Thomas L. Hanson and his wife, Judy, of
Lake Crystal, Minn., Michael A. Hanson and his wife, Joice, of Ventura, Iowa,
Caroline M. Arthur, and her husband, David, of Austin, Texas, Richard D.
Hanson and his wife, Loreen, of Todville; eight grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Marsh and her husband, Albert, of Clear
Lake; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan; her parents; two sisters,
Mildred Hyde and Velma Jasperson; two brothers, Russell Hyde and Kenneth Hyde,
Sr.
