Marlyn E. Butz, 68, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, July 2, 1994, at the Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services were held
Tuesday, July 5 at Faith Baptist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Miles M.
Grismore officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Marlyn E. Butz was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Mason City, the son of Edwin Earl
and Alice Nettie (Paul) Butz. He married Shirley Jean Hamann on Dec. 9, 1945.
She preceded him in death on June 21, 1968.
He then married Eileen (Howland) Vierkant on Aug. 2, 1969.

Marlyn grew up in Clear Lake and graduated from Clear Lake High School in
1944. He farmed north of Clear Lake for 45 years. He earned many honors in
music during high school and continued to play the cornet until one year
prior to his death. He and his wife loved traveling, and traveled extensively

throughout the U.S. and Canada. As a young man, Marlyn came to a personal
faith in Jesus Christ and this became the guiding influence for his life.
He was an active mmber of Faith Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife,
Eileen Butz, Clear Lake; three sons, David Butz and his wife, Rebecca, Clear
Lake, Ronald Butz and his wife, Mary Ann, Sioux City, and Alan Vierkant and
his wife, Kari, Humble, Texas.
