Lennie Dodd Passes Away

SWALEDALE - After six weeks illness in Story hospital Mason City, Lennie DODD passed to the great beyond at 12 am Aug. 18, 1916. He was operated on for appendicitis, June 27, and for some time hopes were entertained for his recovery but on account of the frailty of a body weakened from birth, the wound would not heal and after weeks of severe suffering the Lord released and took him home.

Lennie was born in Oketa, Kan., Nov. 3, 1900 and departed this life in Mason City, Aug. 18, 1916, at the age of 16 years, 10 months and 15 days. Although a cripple from birth and deprived of many privileges that the healthy boy enjoys he never complained and seemed reconciled to his lot. We some way feel that the Great Friend of the sick and afflicted has released him from the infirmities of the flesh and has given him a body upon which the ravages of disease shall have no more influence.

He leaves to mourn his departure, a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. DODD; five sisters, Mrs Anna PHILLIS, Havensville, Kan.; Mrs. Mae and Minnie BEERY, Toledo, Iowa; Mrs. Bessie SAULSBERRY, Wheelerwood, Iowa; and Etta who is home.

Also six brothers, Frank of Toledo; Roy of Wheelerwood and Erwin at home, were present for the services which were conducted at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. EDWARDS, who took for his text, "Rev. 21-4", and for his subject: "Death, dealing with the fact, cause, object, sting and comfort of death".

The body was laid away in the Swaledale [Pleasant Valley Township] cemetery.
