Obituary DOROTHY A. BURRISClear Lake - Dorothy A. Burris, 80, of 705 Third Ave. N., died Monday (Jan. 6, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Following funeral services cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held in Colorado at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. Memorials may be given to the Dorothy A. Burris Memorial Fund, which will be directed toward the Adult Day Health Center, Mason City.
Dorothy A. Burris was born Nov. 17, 1916, at Davenport, the daughter of John and Bertha (Schmidt) Woehlk. She grew up and attended school in Davenport. She married Eugene F. Burris in 1937 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua.
Dorothy was very involved in school and church activities when her children were growing up, participating in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the PTA, serving as president. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, watching and feeding the animals in her yard. She loved her grandchildren dearly and was very interested in their various activities.
Dorothy especially loved the cabin she shared with her family on the Grand Mesa in Colorado, and spent some of her happiest times there. She filled the cabin front with native wild flowers.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake. She was an honorary member of the Peace Circle and served in the past as its president. She also was a member of the Altar Guild.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene F. Burris of Clear Lake; three children, Ron Burris and his wife, Brenda, of Dublin, Ohio; Dennis Burris and his wife, Barbara, of Dexter, Ore., and Wendy Keen and her husband, Will, of Mason City; grandchildren, Jon, Jeff, Roddy and Tom Burris, Heather Preston, Briceanne Bailey, Nancy Frame, Brent Bailey, Johannah Keil, Korenza Burris and Jennifer, Aimee and Nathan Keen; and one brother, Johnny Woehlk of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eugene and Wilbur Woehlk; an infant daughter; and one grand-daughter, Gabriel.
