Mrs. Anna Johnson Dies at Nora Springs

Clear Lake - Mrs. Ann JOHNSON, a resident of Clear Lake since 1883 except for the last few years, died suddenly Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dale BITTERMAN, near Nora Springs. She would have been 85 years old Christmas Eve.

She is survived by 5 daughters and 3 sons. They are Mrs. BITTERMAN; Mrs. Clifford CODY, Springfield, Mass.; Mrs. Leon B. CLARK, Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. R. NACK, Nora Springs; Mrs. Robert CORNING, Cedar Falls; Roy B. JOHNSON, assistant cashier of the 1st National Bank of Mason City; Joseph C. JOHNSON and C. O. JOHNSON, also of Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending word from relatives elsewhere.

Mrs. J. JOHNSON BURIED AT LAKE

Aged Woman's Rites Are Held at Church

Clear Lake - Funeral services for Mrs. Jacob JOHNSON, 84, a former resident of Clear Lake, who died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dale BITTERMAN, near Nora Springs Wednesday evening, were held at the Zion Luthran church Sunday afternoon. The Rev. Ruben MOSTROM, pastor, conducted the rites and burial was in Clear Lake cemetery. Williams' funeral home was in charge.

Pallbearers were James PETERSON, Mason City, and A. C. SATER, Paul KNAPP, Albert CHRISTENSON, Peter SWANSON and Frank RICH, all of Clear Lake. Mmes. CHRISTENSON and SATER arranged the flowers and Mrs. A. E. FOLKMANN, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Irving R. MORGAN, sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "He Leadeth Me."

Mrs. JOHNSON was born Anna CHRISTENSON in Skaaker, Norway, Dec. 24. 1860. She grew to womanhood in Norway and at the age of 23 came to Clear Lake where she was married Sept. 28, 1883, to Jacob JOHNSON. To this union were born 10 children, 8 of whom survived, 2 having died in infancy. Her entire adult life was spent in Clear Lake and vicinity.

Mr. JOHNSON died March 4, 1929, and since that time Mrs. JOHNSON had made her home with Mrs. BITTERMAN. Mrs. JOHNSON was a devoted member of the Zion Lutheran church for more than 40 years and at the time of her death was the oldest member of the Ladies Aid society.

Mrs. JOHNSON's surviving children are Joe C. JOHNSON, C. O. JOHNSON and Roy B. JOHNSON, all of Mason City; Mrs. Leon CLARK, Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. C. C. CODY, Springfield, Mass.; Mrs. D. H. BITTERMAN and Mrs. R. A. NACK, Nora Springs; and Mrs. R. H. CORNING, Cedar Falls. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Mmes. CLARK and CODY, were unable to attend the services.

Those attending the funeral from out-of-town were Miss Marlin CODY, Ames and Springfield, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Anton HAUGEN, Des Moines, and Allan and Robert GUSTAFSON, Des Moines.
