JOE S. JOHNSON DIES AT FLUM'S

Gassed, Wounded World War Veteran Won Victory Medal.

CLEAR LAKE - Funeral services for J. S. JOHNSON, who died Saturday morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. Lars FLEM, 915 South Fourth street, following an illness of several years, will be held at the Bethlehem Luthran church Monday at 2:30 p. m. with the Rev. S. M. STENBY assisted by the Rev. H. E. OAKLAND in charge. Burial will be at Clear Lake.

Mr. JOHNSON was born at Haugesund, Norway, Feb. 5, 1882, and came to the United States in 1906. His honorable discharge from the United States army shows that he enlisted at Centerville, S. Dak., June 4, 1917, and went overseas with the forty-second division, one of the first to see action in France.

He was in the Alsace sector and took part in the Aisne-Marne, Oise-Aisne and Meuse Argonne offensives. He was both wounded and gassed and was awarded a victory medal on Dec. 3, 1920. His ill health dated from the time he was gassed and he had been unable to do any work since leaving the army.

Mr. JOHNSON had lived in Clear Lake for the past 10 years. Besides Mrs. FLUM he is survived by another sister, Mrs. Tom OSNES, Ellington Center.

The body was taken to the Ward Funeral home.
