Born in Rochester, New York, on March 5, 1941,
Died on October 6, 2012 and resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Dr. Richard L. Cooley, 71, of De Pere, died at his home Saturday, October 6, 2012, after a brief illness. He was born March 5, 1941, in Rochester, New York, the son of Stanley and Ruth Cooley.

Richard graduated from Albany Medical School in 1956, then completed residency in pediatrics and one year specialty in children’s trauma. After completing his education, he served in the U.S. Air Force for two years at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

He practiced medicine in North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa. After 18 years, he relocated to the Green Bay area and joined Prevea Clinic as an allergist where he continued to work until his retirement in 2008. He received the American Medical Association Physicians Recognition Award on July 1, 1969.

He and his eternal companion, Ta-Ni, were married in April of 1965. They were sealed for time and all eternity at the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April of 1977.

Richard was a devoted disciple of his Savior Jesus Christ and a leader in the LDS community. He was set apart as Bishop of the Mason City, Iowa Ward on March 7, 1982, after prior service as a Branch President in the same location. After relocating to Wisconsin, he served in several callings before being called as Patriarch of the Green Bay, Wisconsin Stake, which covers northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He and Ta-Ni regularly served as temple workers at the Chicago LDS Temple. He was highly respected by the church brethren and sisters whom he served.

Richard is survived by his wife, Ta-Ni; their four children, Brian, Mason City, Iowa; Tara (Andy) Pettingill, Farmington, Utah; Sean, De Pere; Meg (Bruce) Muller, De Pere; 10 grandchildren, Brianna, Peyton, Skyler, Holland, Ridge, Kayla, Tyler, Ethan, Lauren, Olivia; and one very sad Australian Terrier, Gus.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 651 Pinehurst Ave., Green Bay. Funeral Services will be held at noon at the church.
