Lifelong Mason City resident John (Jack) P. Peterson, 90, of 323 1st NE, died July 5, 1979, at a local nursing home. Funeral services were held Saturday at Major Memorial Chapel, Mason City.
The Rev. Keith L. Scott of Wesley United Methodist Church officiated and burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Jack was born August 19, 1888, the son of John N. and Ida (Kuehn) Peterson. Born in Mason City, he farmed north of Mason City for many years. He married Grace Birkbeck on November 2, 1909 at her parents' home. They moved into town in 1924, where he worked as a crane operator for Ideal Sand and Gravel Co. until his retirement in 1956. Mr. Peterson was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one son, Ralph (Gertrude) Peterson, Mason City; and one daughter, Doris (William) Schyberg, Duluth, MN; four grandchildren, Jon (JoAnne) Peterson, Robert (Jeannine) Peterson, Patricia (Scott) Lavold; and Mary (Jim) Kovisto; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Grace in 1955; and one son.
