Gertrude W. May Peterson, 83, of 286 Willowbrook Drive, died October 28, 1996, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David R. Shogren officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Gertrude M. Peterson was born January 17, 1913, in Mason City, the daughter of George and Verona (Reed) Winchell. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1929.

Gert married Ralph K. Peterson on June 6, 1937, in Mason City and they had three children.

She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 25 years, retiring in 1968.

Gert was an active member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), the North Central Iowa Genealogical Society, the 29er's and Telephone Pioneers. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards and Scrabble and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Jon (JoAnne) Peterson, Mason City, Robert (Jeannine) Peterson, St. Ansgar, one daughter, Patricia (Scott) Lavold, Brooklyn Park, MN; six grandchildren, Julie (David) Burns and Christine Peterson, Ara and Arik Peterson, Laura and Kari Lavold; two sisters, Gladys (Cyrus) Renshaw, Mason City, Verna (Curt) Vrchota, Mason City; and a sister-in-law, Doris (William) Schyberg, Duluth, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph in 1993, a sister, Dorothy; and a brother, George.
