Obituary - James R. "Jim" Dyre

James "Jim" R. DYRE, 81, 904 1st Ave N., Clear Lake, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service was held Friday, March 30, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean HESS and Rev. Derik YARIAN officiating. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family suggests memorials to the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. or Hospice of North Iowa in his name.

Jim was born in Clear Lake, the son of Viva and Beatrice (SEARS) DYRE. He grew up on a farm north of Cartersville, Iowa and attended school in Mason City until junior high. He then attended school in Rockwell, Iowa graduating in 1948. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953.

Jim married Colleen CALDWELL on Sept. 27, 1951 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City. Following the service he started working for PG & E in 1954, later Interstate Power, retiring in 1993.

He was very involved with radio controlled model airplanes, gardening, riding his motorcycle and many trips to the Black Hills. He was a member of the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Department for over 16 years and fire chief from 1976 – 1982. He was past president of the Iowa Firemen's Association from 1986-1987, a lifetime member of Iowa Fire Service Instructor and he taught many fire classes through out Iowa. He was also a member of River City Radio Controls.

Jim is survived by his wife, Colleen DYRE, Clear Lake; two children, Kathy SEPTER and her husband, David, Hills, Iowa and Jay DYRE and his wife, Kami, Ventura; six grandchildren, Trinity (Erica) BENSON, Clear Lake, Tanya (Jeremiah) HOOK, Parkersburg, Iowa, Terry (Jon) MORITZ, Ventura, Dustin DYRE, Debbie DYRE, and Nick DYRE, all of Ventura; seven great-grandchildren, Nathan and Pierce BENSON, Carley, Addison and Hayden HOOK, and Parker and Avery MORITZ; three sisters, Gloria (Gary) GEORGE, Northwood, Iowa, Janice (Nick) SCHMITT, Osage, Iowa, Audrey HUFF, Mason City, and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger DYRE; daughter, Judy BENSON; son-in-law, Larry BENSON; and grandson, Shaun SEPTER.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
