WESLACO, Texas — Newton Ford "Newt" BRYANT, 75, passed away on Sunday (Nov. 25, 2007) at his residence after his struggle with his illness.

He was born on Sept. 8, 1932, to W. H. BRYANT Sr. and Ella FORD BRYANT in Clarion, Iowa. He attended schools in Mason City and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He married Darlene WERSTEIN in 1956.

Newton and Darlene made their home in Mason City where they raised four children, Debra, Jim, Julie and Ellen, and their grandson Daniel.

Newt worked as a painter/carpenter. In 1970 he went to work at Armour where he retired in 1995.

He enjoyed the TV and "HIS COUCH," and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and a fan of any other team that played against the Minnesota Vikings! He also enjoyed gardening, woodcrafts, jig-saw puzzles, family holiday meals and visiting with friends at the Cozy Corner.

In 1996, Newt started wintering in Weslaco, Texas, and in 2002 moved there permanently.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene BRYANT of Weslaco, Texas; children, Debra (Bill) BAKER of Mason City, Jim of St. Louis, Mo., and Ellen of Clear Lake; and grandson, Daniel of Weslaco, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Lane, Riley and Lily; one sister, Clarice CHRISTENSEN; four brothers, Bill, John Dee, Bert and Jin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, W. H. BRYANT Sr. and Ella FORD BRYANT; daughter, Julie; grandson, John Robert; three brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at Rio Valley Estates with Pastor Randy NICHOLS officiating. The BRYANT family will at a later date have a memorial service in Iowa.

In lieu of flowers donations can be mailed to: 715 N. Westgate #100, Weslaco, Texas 78596.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Mercedes, Texas, 956-565-1175.
