Virgil was born April 15, 1900, in Plymouth, the son of Albert B. and Kathryn (GOTTLIEB) CHEHOCK. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1918, and shortly after, he entered the U.S. Army to serve during World War I. Following his service, he attended Michigan State Automobile School in Detroit, and then worked in several auto shops in the Plymouth area. He then began work as a custodian for the United State Post Office in Mason City.

Virgil was united in marriage to Iris COTTRELL on Aug. 12, 1932, in Mason City. He entered into the Air Force in 1942 to serve in the 493rd Bombardier Training Squad during World War II. After his service, he returned to the Post Office in Mason City to work as a carrier for 31 years. He retired in 1964 and enjoyed woodworking and caring for his lawn and house in his free time. He was a member of the First Christian Church for many years.

Survivors include one sister, Agatha WILLEY of Reno, Nev.; six nieces, Barbara BERNER and her husband, Dick, of Mason City, Jean BARLAND and her husband, Paul, of West Bend, Wis., Frances NIELSEN of South St. Paul, Minn., Marvyl McQUATTERS and her husband, John, of Henderson, Nev., Marjgy SCHMITT of Paradise, Calif., and Marcele Van ESSEN and her husband, George, of Reno, Nev.; two nephews, Clyde CHEHOCK and his wife, Kathy, of Cocolalla, Idaho, and Jerry CHEHOCK and his wife, Gail, of San Jose, Calif.; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Iris; two brothers, Kenneth and Leland (Dutch) CHEHOCK; two great-nieces, Mary Ann and Kathryn CHEHOCK; and three great-nephews, Jim McQUATTERS, Ed Van ESSEN and Bryce NIELSEN.
