PROMOTED IN ITALY - Mr. and Mrs. Dewey CARMANY of Plymouth received work that their son, Lawrence G. CARMANY, has been promoted to sergeant somewhere in Italy. He is serving with a tank corps. He has seen some of the beautiful churches of Rome, including St. Peter's famed cathedral. Lawrence has served for 2 years and has been in Africa and Sicily.

NOTE: Lawrence earned the bronze star for rescuing under fire a wounded soldier during his two and a half years overseas. In 1951, he became a member of the Mason City Police force.

MASON CITY - Lawrence G. "Larry" CARMANY, 78, of Mason City, died Saturday (Feb. 3, 2001) at his home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City. [Larry is listed in the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth, Iowa transcriptions.]

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave, Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence G. "Larry" CARMANY was born June 5, 1922, in Plymouth, the son of Dewey and Tena (BARTES) CARMANY. After graduating from Plymouth High School he was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Camp Hood, Texas (Tank Battalion). His service in the Army took him to Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was discharged after years in the service, receiving the Bronze Star. Following his discharge from the Army he worked for five years in Charles City. He later moved to Mason City where he started his painting/contracting business. He was proud to have worked on many projects in North Iowa including schools, churches, motels, homes and the Commercial Building. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed "antiquing" and going to many auctions. He also enjoyed taking care of his dogs over the years.

Those left to cherish his memory include a brother, Don CARMANY and his wife, Bernice, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; sisters, Nellie PRINDLE and husband, Don, of Mason City, Dorothy SMITH, of Mason City, and Evelyn WALSH and husband, Dan, of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ernest, a nephew and a great-nephew.
