January 17, 2010MASON CITY - Marvin Oscar PIIPPO, age 86, of Mason City, died Thursday (Jan. 14, 2010) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., with the Rev. Emily HORRELL officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Marvin O. PIIPPO Memorial Fund in care of the family.
Marvin was born Oct. 26, 1923, in New York Mills, Minn., the son of Oscar and Edla (MATTI) PIIPPO. He attended Ottertall Country School through eighth grade. On July 4, 1939, Marvin moved to Mason City. He served in the Army from 1948-1951.
On Sept. 25, 1960, he was united in marriage to Carol JOHNSON in Mason City. Over the years, he worked as a turbine operator for American Crystal Sugar, and also commercial and residential construction until his retirement in 1985. Marvin was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed gardening (vegetables and flowers), camping and working outside.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol PIIPPO of Mason City; three sons, DeLon PIIPPO of Mason City, Darius PIIPPO of Mason City, Devin PIIPPO and wife, Sandra, of Portland; two grandsons, Tyler and Trenton PIIPPO; and two granddaughters, Destiny and Mariah PIIPPO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Walter, Russell, Arnold and Einar PIIPPO; three sisters, Gertrude, Inez and Agnes.
