Obituary - Robert Luverne "Bob" Paulson
December 26, 1924 ~ March 02, 2011

Robert L. "Bob" PAULSON, 86, of Mason City died Wednesday (March 2, 2011) at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday (March 4, 2011) at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Craig E. STEIMEL officiating. Burial will be held in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening (March 3, 2011) from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 1216 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., a scriptural wake service will follow.

Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Hospice of North Iowa in Bob's name.

Robert Luverne Paulson was born on December 26, 1924 in Joice, Iowa to Arthur W. and Mabel J. (HALVERSON) PAULSON. He attended school in Clear Lake. On April 10, 1944 he was united in marriage to Margaret Jean PHALEN; it was love at first sight. He and Jean were best friends for 64 years, until her death in 2008.

For many years Bob worked at, and eventually owned, PHALEN Dry Cleaners.

As an avid outdoorsman, Bob cherished his time hunting, fishing, and canoeing. He was also a talented woodcarver and even taught a woodcarving class for the Boy Scouts. Amongst Bob's other hobbies were photography and taking up collections, especially the first editions of the Zane Grey books and antique tractor seats. Bob also donated countless hours to the Boy Scouts of America, having made several trips to Philmount Scout Ranch.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City, the Knights of Columbus, and a former Scout Leader for Boy Scouts of America.

Those grateful in sharing in his life are his daughters, Sheila PAULSON, Des Moines and Janine (Burt) HENDRICKS, Great Falls, Montana; two grandsons, Tim (Trina) SUCHAN and Robbie SUCHAN; siblings, Roger (Rosalie) PAULSON, Mason City, Ardys KOLLER, New Mexico, Charlene LEONARD, New Mexico, and Inez KREKOA, San Diego; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Preceding Bob in death are his parents, wife, Jean, and a grandson, Jacob SUCHAN.
