Obituary - Betty M. (Thornbury) Chesnut

Betty M. (THORNBURY) CHESNUT was born on Tuesday, November 18, 1924 in Britt, Hancock County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Anon B. and Mabel (MELENEY) THORNBURY. Betty spent most of her life dedicated to caring for her two sons and her husband, Lowell, and later cared for two young girls in her home. Later in life, Betty was employed at the pharmacy in Mercy Medical Center in Mason City for 15 years until her retirement.

In her early family years Betty and her sisters were known for their special talents in tap dancing and baton twirling. Betty was also a band majorette at Clear Lake High School her junior year.

Betty M. (THORNBURY) CHESNUT, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa with her loved ones by her side.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband of 61 years, James Lowell CHESNUT; her sons, Steven (Joy) CHESNUT and Douglas (Dana) CHESNUT; and her four grandchildren who loved her dearly, Cami, Kyle, Jared and Chad.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Anon and Mabel THORNBURY, sisters Joan and Vernie SMITH, brothers: Maynard & Donnie, and grandson: Colin Christopher, stillborn. May they rest in peace.

Visitation will be from: 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at: 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the First Congregational United Church Of Christ with Pastor Patty AURAND officiating. Inurnment will be held in Elmwood-Saint Joseph Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials in Betty's honor may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ or the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, 232 – 2nd Street S.E., Mason City, Iowa.
