John Francis "Jake" Burke

MASON CITY - John F. "Jake" BURKE, 81, of Mason City died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at The Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Jon M. SEDA officiating, where a flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the Humane Society of North Iowa.

John F. BURKE was born Nov. 13, 1924, at Mason City, a son of Harry J. and Ida (FOX) BURKE. He was united in marriage to Jacque J. HURLEY on July 11, 1953, at Mason City.

Jake attended St. Joseph Catholic School and was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in Mason City. He attended the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A stockbroker for many years, Jake retired from A.G. Edwards and Sons Inc. in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Jacque BURKE of Mason City; a son, Tom BURKE and his wife, Peggy, of Des Moines; two daughters, Staci BURKE and her husband, Phil RAWSON, of Des Moines; Shawn BURKE and her husband, Paul SCOTT, of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Colin BURKE of Iowa City, Jake BURKE, Caroline SCOTT, Meredith SCOTT and Burke SCOTT, all Des Moines.

His parents and three brothers, Bill, Robert and Tom, preceded him in death.

Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City is in charge of arrangements.
