EDITORIAL ~ OBSERVING

Wants Mason City to Get Life Saving Equipment
"I have been wondering," writes D. K., "how many more lives will be lost by drowning in Mason City and Clear Lake before the town authorities of each place realize the imporantce of obtaining proper resuscitation equipmet.

"I saw firemen working fruitlessly on the body of Tommy BURKE, who drowned in Willow creek last week, in a vain but heroic effort to save the boy's life. Equipment, which does not belong to the city, wasn't brought to the scene until about 30 minutes after the boy had been taken to the surface. I saw similar scenes a year or so ago when a small boy drowned at the clay pits, and before that at Clear Lake, when a husky youth drowned near shore.

"Surley the comparatively few dollars required to purchase such equipment are worth every cent of the purchase. Proper equipment increases the victim's chance for regaining life tremendously. Are we to place life on a dollars and cents evaluation?"
