HARRY J. BURKE SUCCUMBS HERE

Funeral Arrangements Not Completed; Member of American Legion.

Harry J. BURKE, 41 years old, 410 Fifth street southeast, died at a local hospital Tuesday morning from pneumonia. He had been ill only a week.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed Tuesday afternoon. Women of St. Joseph's parish will say the Rosary at 8 o'clock and the men of the parish at 9 o'clock Tuesday evening at the home.

Mr. BURKE was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church. He was a member of the American Legion, having served overseas during the war [WWI]. He volunteered June 1, 1918 and served in Company B, Forty-ninth regiment, transportation corps. last year he was active was manager of the Johawks basketball team.

He was formerly employed as an electrician but left the company about five years ago and started contracting for himself. He is survived by his wife [Ida Rose (FOX) BURKE] and four sons [William Anthony (1923-1942), John Francis "Jake" (1924-2006), Robert James (1926-2002), and Thomas Joseph (1929-1937)].

Funeral Services for Harry Burke Thursday

Funeral services for Harry J. BURKE, 410 Fifth street southeast, will be at 10 o'clock, Thursday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church. Burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery. Rosary will be said by the Tabernacle society at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening and by the Holy Name society at 9 o'clock Wednesday evening.

Active pallbearers will be Vic COYLE, Elmer NAGLE, Ralph McCARRON, Paul HURLEY, Cyril GROSS and Francis McDONALD.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the first squad of the Johawk basket ball team. They are George WOLF, Leo RYAN, Bernard HOUSEHOLDER, Dick HUBBARD, Kermit MEYER and Robert MULLAN.

Rites Held at Church for Harry J. Burke, Victim of Pneumonia

Requiem solemn high mass for Harry J. BURKE, 410 Fifth street southeast, was celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic church Thursday forenoon. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.

The Very Rev. P. S. O'CONNOR was celebrant, the Rev. E. J. SUPPLE was deacon, the Rev. H. J. KRIEGER sub-deacon, and the Rev. J. J. OLINGER, master of ceremonis. The Rev. Father O'CONNOR gave the funeral sermon.

Active pallbearers were Vic COYLE, Elmer NANGLE, Ralph McCARRON, Paul HURLEY, Cyril GROSS and Francis McDONALD.

Mr. BURKE died at a local hospital Tuesday morning after a brief illness from pneumonia.
