Everett J. BROWN, 85, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with entombment held at North Lawn Mausoleum. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and the VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be held from 4:00 8:00 p.m. today at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Everett John BROWN, the son of Ralph and Zelba (HARDGROVE) BROWN was born January 11, 1926 in Algona, Iowa. He graduated from Algona High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Navy serving during WWII being honorably discharged in 1946. Everett was a civilian less than a year and enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1947 and served during the Korean War. Everett served 23 ? years of active military duty and earned the Purple Heart, Combat Action with Gold Star, Presidential Unit Citation with two stars, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with five stars, American Theater, European-African-Middle East campaign medal with one star, Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation, China Service Medal, National Defense medal with one star, Korean service medal with silver star, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, Korean PUC medal, United Nations medal, Vietnam Service medal, Korean Service 50 years, Drill Instructor and Recruiter.

On May 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Bernadine CHICOINE. The couple lived in Mason City, Des Moines, and various states moving due to Everett's military service before making their home in Fort Dodge in 1967. Everett managed the KFC in Fort Dodge for five years and then spent 15 years in various positions with the Starlite Village before retiring in 1987.

Survivors include his daughter Cheri (Leo) HART of Charles City and grandson Christopher (Stephannie) HART, great-grandchildren Julian and Caleb, and granddaughter Jennifer HART (Chad ANDERSON); his son Alan BROWN (Colleen HAY) of Lehigh, and grandchildren Alexander, Alisa (Matthew GODFREY) and great-granddaughter Willow, his former daughter-in-law Lisa BROWN; his son Joseph (Jan) BROWN of Blue Springs, MO and grandchildren Zachary and Taylor Kay. Also surviving are his brother Tom BROWN of CO, Harriet PETERSON of KY and his sister-in-law Marilyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Donald and Vaughn and his wife Bernadine in 2009.

Memorials may be directed towards the Disabled American Veterans.
