Obituary - Frances G. (Laughlin) Amos

Frances G. AMOS, 80, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 1995, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A funeral Mass was held at 10 am. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, at St. Patrick's Catholic Churchin Clear Lake with Msgr. Joseph J. SLEPICKA officiating.

Burial was in the Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City. The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of services.

Frances G. AMOS was born on April 11, 1915, in Emmetsburg, Iowa the daughter of Robert LAUGHLIN and Katherine LAUGHLIN (nee) JACKMAN.

She attended Emmetsburg Grade School and graduated from Holy Family City Junior College in 1934. She was united in marriage to Joseph Burton AMOS on Oct. 4, 1936, and he was killed in action in the battle for Iwo Jima in [March 7] 1945.

Frances was a long time resident of Mason City, moving to Clear Lake in 1960, where she enjoyed antique hunting with her special sister-in-law Arlene JACOBSON LAUGHLIN. She also loved the lake and the activities there and was an avid fishing enthusiast.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake.

Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Kathryn "Kate" QUINN and her husband David of Grayslake, Ill.; and a son, John AMOS and his wife Mary, of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Matthew Justin AMOS of Clear Lake, Jennifer Sarah INGERSOLL of Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. and David Sullivan QUINN of Lake Villa, Ill; one great-grandson, Mark Allen INGESOLL; one sister, Margaret MORGAN and her husband John of Austin, Minn.; one brother, Patrick LAUGHLIN of Webster City, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Doris, Hazel, and Arlene LAUGHLIN; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Cassie ESSLEY and Virginia SCOTT; and three brothers, Robert LAUGHLIN, John LAUGHLIN, and Jerry LAUGHLIN.
