MASON CITY — Gretchen Mary SAMPSON, 88, of 844-10th St. N.E. in Mason City, died Monday (Jan. 30, 2006) at the IOOF Home in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302-Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Harry H. Koelker officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 18 West, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 5 p.m. followed by a Scriptural wake service at 5:45 p.m.

The family of Gretchen Mary Sampson has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, in her memory.

Gretchen Mary SAMPSON was born on May 23, 1917, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Grace (STEELE) WESTBY.

She was united in marriage to George REDINGTON on Nov. 30, 1933, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. He preceded her in death in 1964.

Gretchen worked as a nurse aide for Mercy Hospital and for Park Clinic in Mason City for several years until her retirement.

She was united in marriage to Leonard LOWENBERG on Feb. 12, 1966. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1973. She was united in marriage to John SAMPSON on Jan. 12, 1985. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2001.

Gretchen enjoyed traveling and reading, but her great love and enjoyment were her family and friends.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Grandmothers Club.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, GayLee TOPPIN and her husband, Gerald, of Lorimor, Greg REDINGTON and his wife, Gaby, of Chantilly, Va., and Geanne ANDERSON and her husband, Roger, of Ventura; 12 grandchildren, Darren, Mike and David TOPPIN, Michelle, Collette, Vanessa, Tom and Lisa REDINGTON, Laura Lawrence, Anne CASE and Jon and Chad ANDERSON; 19 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Lassara REDINGTON, of Omaha, Neb., as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son, Garrett REDINGTON, who died in 1966; a grandson, James REDINGTON; and two sisters.
