Obituary - Valeria L. "Val" (Paulson) Ruehlow Thornton

MASON CITY -- Valeria "Val" L. THORNTON, 65, of 228 23rd St. S.W., died Sunday (Dec. 8, 1996) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., with the Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Valeria "Val" THORNTON Memorial Fund.

Valeria THORNTON was born April 13, 1931, in Hancock County, the daughter of Lester B. and Gladys M. (LAWHORN) PAULSON.

At the age of 12 the PAULSON family moved to Mason City where Val attended school.

She married Norman A. RUEHOLOW on May 11, 1948, in Mason City. Mr. RUEHLOW died in January of 1969. Val then married Frank THORNTON on Sept. 12, 1969, in Albert Lea, Minn.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge and enjoyed camping and crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Frank THORNTON of Mason City; sons, Frank THORNTON Jr. and wife, Pat, of Lexington, Ill.; James and Penny THORNTON of Mason City; Billy Ruehlow and wife, Barbara, of Mason City, and Bobby RUEHLOW and wife, Deb, of Mason City; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis MILLER and her husband, Charles, of Mason City; brother, Randy MALONE of Hawaii; sister, Cindy HOLMES of Mason City; brother, Gary MALONE and his wife, Heidi, of Mason City; step-father, Reuben HOVEL of Manly; and two step-sisters, Edith and Darlene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Norman; infant daughter, Lori Jo; and stepmother.
