December 17, 1996MASON CITY -- Helen O. STEPHENS, 80, of 515 N. Jefferson Ave., died Monday (Dec. 16, 1996) at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Wayside Chapel, First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Merlin ACKERSON officiating. Burial will be in the New Hampton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Helen O. STEPHENS Memorial Fund.
Helen was born Jan. 3, 1916, in New Richland, Minn., daughter of Ellsworth and Chloe (ORMS) MARVEL. She grew up in New Hampton and graduated from New Hampton High School.
She taught school in Dayton Township #7 school for two years and for three years in the Boyd school.
She was married on July 17, 1940, to Harold O. STEPHENS, at Hazelton.
She lived in Chickasaw County on a farm near Ionia for several years. She moved to Mason City in 1954.
She worked for the Hanford Hotel for five years, the Oakville Pin Factory for five years, and St. Clair Starks for 22 years as a tailor.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harold O. STEPHENS, Mason City; two daughters, Janice SAUNDERS and her husband, Doug, of Charles City, and Joyce KIRKENDALL and her husband, Chuck, of Saukville, Wis.; one son, Jerry STEPHENS and his wife, Kathy, Trenton, Mo.; grandchildren, Julie SINDLINGER and her husband, Mark, of Charles City; Kevin SAUNDERS, Lakewood, Colo.; Chris KENT and her husband, Kelly, of Oshkosh, Wis.; Sandra KIRKENDALL, Portales, N.M.; Jamie STEPHENS and his wife, Gretchen, Chillicothe, Mo.; and Nancy MITCHELL and her husband, Pat, of Moline, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Jessie SINDLINGER and Carter STEPHENS; one sister, Ruth BERGMAN, New Hampton; and one brother, Harold MARVEL, Roswell, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
