Obituary - Clarence M. Ristau

MASON CITY -- Clarence M. RISTAU, 85, of 119 Linden Drive, died Monday (Dec. 16, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick J. WOOD officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in his memory.

Clarence was born Jan. 12, 1911, at LuVerne, son of Conrad and Emma (TIDED) RISTAU. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Garner and attended school at a rural Lutheran school near Garner. He farmed in the Ventura area for a number of years.

Clarence was married to Bernice HOCKENSON on Nov. 8, 1939, in Mason City by the Rev. HINTZ.

They moved to a farm near Thornton in 1942 and lived there until 1946 when they moved to California.

They returned to the Rockford area in 1953 and returned to farming. They moved to Mason City in 1972, when he retired from farming.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and his family.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a member of the Aid Association for Lutherans.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice RISTAU of Mason City; son, James RISTAU and his wife, Barbara, of Hampton; two daughters, Rita ZAHARIADES and her husband, Nick, of Mason City, and Diane READ and her husband, Jim, of Rockford; grandchildren, Keith RISTAU and his wife, Silvana, Dallas, Texas; Marc RISTAU, Hampton; Didi ZAHARIADES, Seattle, Wash.; Sheri TETTER and her husband, Curt, Charles City; Heather FAULKNER and her husband, Jeff, of Ames, and Derek READ of Rockford; great-grandchildren, Tasha and Tucker TEETER; a brother, Walter RISTAU and his wife, Helen, of Mason City; and one sister, Elenora SWANSON, Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon and Kenneth; and sister, Cora SHOEMAKER.
