March 7, 1914 - November 10, 1987

Mason City, IA - Walter Popp, 73, of Mason City, died Tuesday November 10, 1987 at the Britt hospital.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 AM Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, with Father Joseph J. Slepika and the Rev. John J. Brickley officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation is after 3 PM today at Ewing Funeral Chapel, Brit, where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7:30 PM tonight.

Walter Popp was born March 7, 1914 on a farm near Plymouth to John and Kate (Fitzl) Popp. He attended rural schools near Osage. During WW II, he served in the US Army in the Guadalcanal zone. After his discharge he returned to Iowa.

In 1948 he married Adeline McGuire. They made their home in Mason City, where he was employed by North Western Railroad and later for the Pritchard Auto Company in Mason City.

He was then employed for the Mason City Police Department, retiring in 1979 after serving as jailer and in the maintenance department for 23 years.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. VFW and the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his fiancée, Dortha Casady, Britt; four sisters, Josie Stangler, Manly, Annie Weaverling and Katherine Kollmann, both of Osage, and Bertha Woffard, Mesa, AZ. and three brothers, Rudy and Ed, both of Mason City, and Dave of Nekoosa, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in 1984.
