December, 2009MASON CITY -- Robert "Bob" Lewis JONES, aged 79, of 707 S. Indiana Ave., Mason City, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the I.O.O.F. home in Mason City, surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at the Swaledale United Methodist Church in Swaledale, with Rev. John SCHERB officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania. Memorials may be directed to the Robert L. JONES Memorial Fund in care of the family.
Bob was born on December 3, 1929, in Swaledale, IA, to Robert Leo "Lee" JONES and Alfina "Feenie" (KRAMER) JONES. He was baptized in the Thornton Methodist Church, and graduated from Swaledale High School. After farming with his father for a time, he was inducted into the U.S. Army in March, 1951, and was stationed in Colorado. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in 1953, and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Bob was joined in marriage to Lorraine LUICK in May of 1951. To this union, eight children were born. They later divorced. He spent the last 29 years with his faithful companion, Mary HOLM of Mason City.
Bob is most remembered for his work at International Harvestor, where he sold farm equipment in north Iowa area for many years. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Honda motorcycles, and watching boxing and the Chicago Bulls on television. He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge. Due to deteriorating health, he had lived at the I.O.O.F. care center for the last several years.
Left to cherish his memory are Mary HOLM; six children, Barbara (Thomas) NOONAN of Lakewood, Colorado; Peggy (Kurt) LETTOW of Urbandale, IA; Tom (Sue) JONES of Rockwell, IA; Terry JONES of Mason City; John (Lorraine) JONES of Rockwell, IA; and Jeannette (Brad) BRAM of Rockwell; other survivors include one brother, Dale JONES and special friend Mavis FITZGERALD of Mason City; one niece, Angie (Mike) WILKINS of Northwood; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several aunts and uncles; and many cousins. Also surviving him are Mary's children: Dianna (Luke) MOSTECK of Columbus, Nebraska; David (Donna) HOLM of Illipolis, Illinois; and two grandchildren.
One son, Danny, preceded him in death in 2001.
