KNOXVILLE -- Danny Joe JONES, 47, of Knoxville, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday on the Mile Long Bridge at Saylorville Lake. The death has been ruled a suicide. Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Swaledale United Methodist Church in Swaledale. Burial, with military rites, will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery there.

Mr. JONES was born in Mason City and had lived in Knoxville 10 years. He was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War and was active at Veterans Medical Center in Knoxville. He enjoyed leather and woodworking.

He is survived by his father, Robert JONES of Mason City; three sisters, Barbara NOONAN of Denver, Colo., Peggy LETTOW of West Des Moines and Jeannette BRAM of Mason City; three brothers, Thomas and Terry, both of Mason City, and John of Rockwell; and his grandparents, Lee and Alfina JONES of Mason City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Danny Joe JONES Memorial Fund. Fullerton Funeral Home of Rockwell is handling arrangements.
