PLAN RITES FOR H. M. JONES, 70

Funeral Services to Be at Ward's Tuesday for Retired Farmer

CLEAR LAKE - Funeral services for Hugh Michael JONES, 70, who died at his home, 816 South Oak street, Saturday afternoon [January 17, 1942] following a long illness, will be held at Ward's funeral home Tuesday at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Austin ERWIN, pastor of the Methodist church at Swaledale, will cnduct the rites and burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Mr. JONES underwent a major operation last August and had been failing gradually since. He was born March 13, 1872, at New York, M.J., the son of Hugh and Mary JONES who came from Wales, British Isles.

When 2 years of age his parents moved back to Wales and the boy lived there until he was 14 when he returned to New York where he was employed five years before coming to a farm at Lexington, Ill. There he met and married Miss Mary Nellie BLAKNEY and they lived at Leington (sic) a year and a half before moving to Hinckley, Ill., where they stayed seven years before moving to Cerro Gordo county where they lived on a farm near Swaledale until Dec. 20, 1941, when they moved to the present home.

Besides his wife, Mr. JONES is survived by 10 children and 24 grandchildren. The children are Hugh SMITH (sic, should be JONES), Garner; Charles SMITH (sic, should be JONES), Decatur, Ill,; Mrs. William QUILLING (Florence), Garner; James SMITH (sic, should be JONES), Peoria, Ill.; Martin SMITH (sic, should be JONES), Dows; Mrs. Roy ROWE (Martha) and Leo SMITH (sic, should be JONES), Swaledale, and Mrs. Joe AAMODT (Sarah), Mrs. Maynard COLLINS (Ellen) and William SMITH (sic, should be JONES), Mason City. All the children are here for the funeral.

While Living in Illinois, Mr. SMITH (sic, should be JONES) was affiliated with the Presbyterian church. He is believed to have a sister living in Wales but had not heard from her since the war started.
