Emma G. Benson, age 87, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa in Allamakee County, died Sunday, October 9, 1988 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin at the Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 12, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Chapel. Pastor Judd Larson will officiate and burial will take place in the Oakland Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Emma was born November 24, 1900 to John and Anna (Uridil) Chalupnik in Traer, Iowa. She grew up near Tama, Iowa, moved to Jackson, Minnesota with her family, then to Mason City, Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa, and Dallas, Texas. She was a retail cashier in Des Moines and co-owner of Billy's Cafe in Dallas, Texas.

On September 25, 1935 she married W. S. "Ben" Benson in Mason City, Iowa. They lived i n Mason City, Lake Mills, Iowa, Waterloo, Iowa, Charles City, Iowa and then retired to Harpers Ferry, Iowa.

She was a member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran church, Senior Citizens Euchre Club, craft groups, a girls' youth leader, and also a former Harpers Ferry city council member.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; a step-son, Tom Benson who was killed in the Korean War; 3 brothers, Lloyd Chalupnik, Adolph Chalupnik, and Edwin Chalupnik, and two sisters, Olga and Elsie.

She is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Charles (Lottie) Crowley and Mrs. E. P. (Albia) Tracy, both of Mason City, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
