Pioneer Settler Dies at Home Following Lingering Illness
Joseph Senior, one of Cerro Gordo county's pioneers, died Saturday afternoon at his home, 122 Fifth street northeast, after an illness of several years. Death followed a heart attack, the third in the last two years.
Mr. Senior was 84-years-old and had lived in Cerro Gordo county since he was one-year-old, coming to Portland township with his parents in 1855 from Kenosha, Wis., where he was born.
The family moved to Mason City in 1863 but returned to the farm in 1871. Farming was his vocation during most of his life and he owned two farms in Falls township. He had lived in his present residence more than 20 years.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. August May, Mason City, and Mrs. Walter Peck, Des Moines. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. The body was taken to the Major-Randall funeral home.

Cerro Gordo County Pioneer Succumbs From Heart AttackFuneral services for Joseph senior [sic], 84, one of Cerro Gordo county’s pioneers, will be held at the Major-Randall funeral home at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. William Galbreth, associate pastor of the First Methodist church, in charge. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery.
Mr. Senior died at his home Saturday afternoon from heart disease. He was born at Kenosha, Wis., Dec. 3, 1854. He had resided in Cerro Gordo county since he was one-year-old. Farming was his vocation during most of his life. He had resided at his home, 122 Fifth street northeast, for more than 20 years.
Surviving Mr. Senior are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. August May, Mason City, and Mrs. Walter J. Peck, Des Moines; a sister, Eliza Senior, Nora Springs; two grandchildren, Howard E. May, Mason City, and Robert e. Peck, Kansas City, Mo., and two great-grandchildren.
