Services to Be on Thursday Afternoon
Henry Smith, 76, died at his home, 630 Maryland S.E., at 7 a.m. Tuesday [June 19, 1951], following an illness of 3 weeks. He had beena resident of Mason City for the past 44 years.
Mr. SMITH was born May 1, 1875, at Freeport, Ill. [son of Julius Augustus and Emmeline (SCHOONMAKER) SMITH] He moved with his parents to Iowa and settle down a farm near Little Rock. Seven years later they moved to California and returned a year later and settled on a farm in Clay County.
Married in 1898
He was married to Luda E. COOK on April 7, 1898, and they made their residence on a farm in Clay county for 9 years. In October, 1907, they moved to Mason City and he began employment with the Milwaukee Road. He retired in March, 1943.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Henry SMITH, a daughter, Mrs. John (Luda Henrietta) NELSON, 4 granddaughters, Mrs. Sydney CHILDREN, Ruth Elaine NELSON, Mrs. Weston COTTRELL, and Mrs. Edward MURILL; and 3 grandsons, Leslie and David RISH, and Mark COTTRELL, all of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marguerite, in infancy in 1907, a brother, David SMITH, and a sister, Mrs. Oscar HILL.
Mr. SMITH was a member of the Re-organized Church of Jesus Christ's Latter Day Saints, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Rites Thursday
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the McAuley and Son chapel, with Elder Clyde McDONALD, pastor of the Latter Day Saints church, Des Moines, officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the residence 630 Maryland S.E., until Wednesday, and will be returned to the chapel for services Thursday. The McAuley and Son funeral home is in charge.
