September, 1957J. F. Potter Service Set for Saturday
Funeral services for John F. POTTER, 65, retired Mason City carpenter, who died Wednesday [September 11, 1957] at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McAuley-Scanlan Chapel.
The Rev. Virgil MILLARD, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with graveside military rites.
Friends may call at the chapel after 4 p.m. Friday.
Mr. POTTER was born July 31, 1892, at Davis Ill., son of Clayton U. and Alice (NELMS) POTTER. He moved with his parents to Leland as a child and attended school there. He enlisted in the U.S. Army March 5, 1918 [World War I], at Forest City and received his discharge May 27, 1919.
He returned to Leland after his military service and moved to Mason City in 1921. he had lived here since that time. He was married to Minnie SCHRADER Jan. 15, 1950, at Woodstock, Ill. They made their home at 1413 Wilson S.W.
Mr. POTTER was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, a step-daughter, Mrs. Charles (Nelda) O'BRIEN, Chicago; two brothers, Earl POTTER, Mason City, and Orley POTTER, St. Louis, Mo.; and a sister, Mrs. George (Elsie) JOHNSON, Des Moines.
HE was preceded in death by his first wife [Sophia Henrietta (GROSS) POTTER] and a sister.
