Graveside services were held Tuesday afternoon at Forest Home cemetery east of Leland for Clayton U. POTTER, 88, a former resident of Leland who died Saturday [January 23, 1954] in Mason City where, for serveral years, he had been a resident in a nursing home. The Rev. Roger RUSSELL of First Methodist church, Mason City, conducted the funeral services at McAuley funeral home, Mason City, and officiated at the graveside rites. Pallbearers were Mr. POTTER'S grandsons, Harley and Donavan (sic, should be Donovan) HAXTON, and his great-grandsons, Jack and Jerry HAXTON of Mason City.
Mr. POTTER was born April 26, 1865, at Davis, Ill., one of the six children of Isaac and Margaret POTTER. June 15, 1886, he married Alice NELMS, Brodhead, Wis., and six years later the couple moved to Iowa and for 10 years were engaged in farming northwest of Leland. In 1902 the POTTERS moved to the town of Leland where Mr. POTTER operated a livery stable and dray line, retiring from the latter occupation in 1934 when he moved to Mason City to live with his sons. Mr. POTTER was a member of the Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters, his wife who died March 17, 1903, and one daughter, Grace, Mrs. Homer HAXTON.
Survivors are one daughter, Elsie, Mrs. George JOHNSON of Des Moines, three sons, Orley POTTER of St. Louis, John F. POTTER and Earl POTTER, of Mason City, ten grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Clayton U. POTTER, 88, who died Saturday [January 23, 1954], were held Tuesday afternoon at the McAuley and Son Chapel, with the Rev. Roger RUSSELL, associate pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Mrs. Roscoe E. PATTON played the organ.
Attending the services from out of the city were Orley A. POTTER, St. Louis, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. George JOHNSON and family, and Mrs. George LENNAN Jr., Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Harley HAXTON and familyn, Clear Lake; and, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. TURNER, Charles City.
Pallbearers were Harley, Donald, John and Jerry HAXTON. Burial was at the Forest Home Cemetery, Leland.
