Mrs. Moroney Rites to Be on Saturday;
Mrs. Ed (Anna) Moroney, 65, a resident of Swaledale 51 years and wife of the postmaster of Swaledale, died at a Mason City hospital Wednesday evening, following a lingering illness.
She was born April 16, 1887 on a farm near Nora Springs in Floyd County, the daughter of Michael and Ann Dunn. In 1901, the family moved to Swaledale, where she was graduated from the Swaledale schools. Later she was graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls.
Upon graduation from State Teachers she taught at Tripoli and in 1916 she returned to Swaledale and taught in the schools there 10 years.
On Aug. 22, 1922, she was married to Edward Moroney at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at Swaledale. They operated a general store in Swaledale until 1947, when the store was closed and Mr. Moroney became the postmaster of Swaledale.
Surviving are her husband, a son, Thomas, teaching at Reinbeck, a brother, B.R. Dunn, Mason City, and three sisters, Mrs. James Dorsey, Mrs Andrew Hannah and Mrs. J. C. Jindrich all of Swaledale. She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
The Rosary will be said at the Moroney residence at Swaledale at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Requiem Mass will be celebreated at 9 a.m. Saturday at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church at Swaledale, with Father Nester Goedken officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Mason City. The Colonial Funeral Home is in charge.
