William C. Hofer
CLEAR LAKE- William Clarence Hofer, 98, of 201 N 12th St., Clear Lake, died Monday (Jan. 22, 1990) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Edward Shields officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation is after 3 p.m. Friday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials may be given to the William Clarence Hofer Memorial Fund.
Mr. Hofer was born Nov. 8, 1891, in rural Ventura to William and Julia (Hetzler) Hofer. He attended Ventura schools and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1911. He married Garnet Skovgaard on Aug. 23, 1922, in Clear Lake.
He attended Hamilton Business School in Mason City. He worked at the First National Bank, Mason City, and then for Champlin Oil, Refining Company until 1927 when he began Hofer Oil Company. He was a oil jobber until 1945. He was then involved in farming until the time of his death.
Mr. Hofer was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, Mason City.
Survivors include his wife, Garnet, Clear Lake; one daughter, Mrs. Ted (Julia Ann) Young, Mason City; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
