MASON CITY- Mrs. Charley G. (Mary J.) Younke, 92, formerly of 841 Sixth St. S.W., died Saturday (March 3, 1990) at Heritage Nursing Home of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E.
The Rev. Daniel J. Keppler will officiate with burial in Elmwood-St. Joseph's Cemetery.Visitation will be from 6 tonight, with a wake service at 6:30 p.m, until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 209 Secnd St. N.E.
Mrs. Younke was born July 14, 1897, in Rotterdam, Holland, to Richard and Mary (Williams) Breed. The family came to the United States from Holland in 1909 and settled in Mason City. She attended Mason City schools.
On Dec. 29, 1918, she was married to Charley G. Younke. She was employed at the Olympic Cafe as a candy dipper, then worked at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital as a nurse's aide until retiring in 1971.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Jim (Mary Ann) Merchant, Wichita, Kan.; Mrs Jack (June) Russel and Mrs. John (Alida) Weber, both of Mason City; one son, Charles R., Mason City; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great granchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1945, one son, one grandson, four brothers and three sisters.
