Mason City Globe Gazette-Sunday, October 18, 2009-Joseph J. Sanchez, Sr., 82, of Mason City, IA. died Wednesday night, Oct 14, 2009 at Good Shepard Health Center. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Oct 19, at the Fullerton Funeral Home, Mason City, IA. Interment will be in Elmwood/St. Joseph Cemetery.
Joseph was born July 4, 1927 to Brigido and Cecelia (Infante) Sanchez. He was the last survivor of six children. Joe attended school in Mason City, later moving in 1968 to Los Angeles, CA. where he became a certified steam engineer through the Los Angeles Dept. of Building & Safety. For 24 1/2 years he worked as a operational engineer at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Glendale, CA. Joeph was very much into music and enjoyed sharing his guitar playing and love of Mexican music with everyone. Early in his life he played pool and was a boxer in Mason City. His love of boxing made him a big fan of UFC ultimate fighting. Surviors include his two daughters, Anita Walker of Mason City, IA. and Cecelia Sanchez, Texas; four sons, Joe Jr. (Julie) Sanchez, Mason City, IA.; Joe Brian Sanchez, Yuma, AZ.; Jesse Sanchez, Arvada, CA.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Patricia and Mary Sanchez. His parents; wife, Mary; two sisters, Mary Lievanos and Isabelle Mendoza; and three brothers, Manuel, Merno & Dorates, preceded him in death.
