Dr. Marie Alcorn
dies at age 58

Mason City - Dr. Marie O'Brien Alcorn, 58, the associate director of the family practice residency program in Mason City, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 1983) at a Mason City hospital.

Dr. Alcorn of 101 5th Ave. N. Clear Lake, was born in 1924 in Mason City to Dr. Steve A O'Brien and Edith (Schaffer) O'Brien. She was a graduate of Mason City High School, Iowa State University, Ames, and Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, Neb. She married Dr. Harry Alcorn in 1950 in Mason City.

Dr. Alcorn was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake; American Medical Association, Cerro Gordo County Medical Society, American Academy of Family Practice and Gamma Phi sorority. She was a staff member of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital here. Dr. Alcorn was an associate member of the University of Iowa Medical School faculty, affiliated with the family practice department, and was on the board of directors of Mutual Federal Savings and Loan Association.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev Joseph Slepicka and the Rev. James Duster officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, Mason City, where there will be a parish rosary at 7 p.m. Friday.

The family requests memorials to be made to the Marie Alcorn Memorial Fund for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Harry Alcorn; two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Cynthia A.) Rust, Mendota Heights Minn.; and Dr. Debby M. Alcorn, Milwaukee, Wis.; one son Dr. Harry W. Alcorn, Jr., Burnsville, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Jim (Ann) Wagner, St. Paul, Minn, and Mrs. Jack (Ruth) Smith, Lake Forest, Ill.
